David Brown Honored by the American Civil Liberties Foundation and Union of Delaware

We are pleased to announce that David B. Brown, Potter Anderson’s Chairman, received the 2007 Gerald E. Kandler Memorial Award from the American Civil Liberties Foundation and Union of Delaware, at a dinner in Wilmington on October 17, 2007. He shares this honor with Peggy E. Strine, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and CRA for Citizens Bank in Delaware.

According to the Foundation, the recipients of the annual Kandler Memorial Award exemplify the mission and message of the ACLU, an organization dedicated to preserving and enhancing the values embodied in the Bill of Rights. Mr. Brown and Ms. Strine were honored for their commitment to ensuring the rights of individuals and for their dedication to the cause of civil liberties.

Mr. Brown is active in serving community and charitable organizations. He is a board member, past President and co-founder of Delaware Volunteer Legal Services, and also serves on the boards of Planned Parenthood of Delaware, Delaware Hospice, Inc. and the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce. He has served as Co-Chair of the Combined Campaign for Justice and chaired the lawyers’ division of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society of the United Way. He has previously served on the boards of the Delaware Theatre Company and the Downtown Wilmington Improvement Corporation, and of Neighborhood Legal Services Program, Inc. and the Washington Council of Lawyers in Washington, DC.

Mr. Brown has provided pro bono legal assistance to Delaware Volunteer Legal Services, the Inter-racial Council for Business Opportunities of Greater Washington, and the National Capital Area ACLU. He has also served on the Governor’s International Trade Council, the Delaware State Arts Council and Delaware’s Re: Learning Partnership, a task force on education. Mr. Brown has been honored with the Governor’s Volunteer of the Year Award, the Distinguished Service Award from Delaware Volunteer Legal Services, and the Alexis de Tocqueville Society Award for outstanding volunteerism, leadership and vision.
